Our special events will interest and entertain you. Community events occur all year long, so you're bound to luck into several of these during your visit: craft shows, ceilidhs, art exhibits, dances, chowder festivals, concerts, fireworks, fairs, bazaars, variety shows, festivals, auctions, lobsterfests, carnivals, farmer's markets, quilt and rug shows, rowing races, suppers, parades, and more.Whatever your pleasure, just join in the fun!

Visitor Information Centre staff will be pleased to provide you with details of current activities and assist you in planning your visit to our wonderful destination area. Our Tantallon Visitor Services Centre is located on the Atlantic Superstore property on the corner of Hwy 3 and Route 333.

Hubbard's Farmers' Market

The Hubbard's Farmers' Market at The Hubbards Barn houses a variety of local farmers, bakers, artists, and artisans offering fresh produce, plants, jams/jellies, fresh seafood, homemade cheese, jewellery, and much more.  There is also live musical entertainment.

RBC Multicultural Festival

Lebanese Festival
Jul 8 - 11, 2010 , Halifax

LebanesefestTry Lebanese food such as Tabouli, Hummus, Kafta, Zaatar, Falafel, Shish Taouk, and Baklava.

Nature Walk & Talk with a Side of Geocaching
Jul 14, 2010 , Rissers Beach

Join park staff, Jason Nauss, for a fun walk in the woods!  During the walk, Jason will touch on tree identification and also talk a bit about wildlife in the area.  If that is not cool enough, Jason will also introduce you to the wonderful uses of GPS units and all about geocaching.  There will be a couple units on hands so you can hunt for some treasure during the walk!

Please wear appropriate footwear for this moderate to easy walk.  Ages 10 and up.

Navigate Nature with a GPS
Jul 15, 2010 , Graves Island Provincial Park

Learn the mysteries of the high-tech treasure hunt called Geocaching.  Hear a short history of the origins and how to of geocaching.  In this session, you will also learn how to use a GPS, how to find a geocache, geocaching etiquette and what makes a good geocache to hide. 

Bring a GPS if you have one, a pencil, notepad, bug spray, and waterproof foot wear.  There will be walking around the island.

Crib Tournament

Duncans Cove Trail Walk
Jul 17, 2010 , Duncans Cove Nature Reserve

Join the Chebucto Hiking Club for a moderate/difficult 10 km hike.  This hike is suitable for adults only as there is some significant hill climbing and part of the walk takes place on somewhat difficult terrain (rocky, rooted paths).  Please bring lots of water.

Creature Feature: The Atlantic Whitefish

The Atlantic Whitefish can only be found in the Petite Riviere in Lunenburg County and the Tusket River in Yarmouth County.  Come join staff from the Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation for an underwater adventure as we explore the life and journey of the Atlantic Whitefish.  Where do they live?  What do they eat?  What should you do if you meet one?  Ages 10 and up

World Tuna Flat Rowing Races
Jul 24, 2010 , Hubbards

Teams of four will race these unwieldy craft down a 1/4 mile course on Hubbards Cove for glory and wonderful prizes.  There are men's, women's, and mixed teams, with many in colourful get-ups.

On shore, there will be live music, a BBQ, beer, and lots of fun.  Come early for the Pancake Breakfast.

Time: Races begin at 12:00 noon

Cost: Registration fee for a team of four is $50

Boxwood Festival and Workshops

The Boxwood Festival and Workshops focusses on celebrating and sharing musical traditions.  Boxwood's participants join with members of the local community for music, concerts, dances, classes, and informal sessions creating a tightly woven bond for an experience to be treasured.

Boxwood has followed the paths of musical oral tradition in Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton, Quebec, and New England, as well as exploring music of Breton, Galician, Cuban Charanga, Native American and classical Indian styles by inviting tradition bearers, top players and musical visionaries to share their music.
